GRADE  7  MATHEMATICS - please continue using graph paper notebooks for your work !!!

Hello everyone,

Working from home, all students should have their textbook, notebook and, for the next chapter, a GEOMETRY  SET (should have been part of your school supplies).

Chapter 3 (Geometry and Measurement) is our next topic and should cover the time period from now until April 5 - a little more than 2 weeks if you exclude the official Spring Break week. So roughly 17 days.

There are 5 sections in the chapter, so you will have to manage your time, perhaps about 3 days for each section.

Section 3.1 - Parallel and Perpendicular Line Segements. Students should read carefully pages 82 - 86, copy in their note book the definitions of parallel, perpendicular, right triangleon pages 83 and 84 and learn them. Special attention should be paid to Example 1 on page 83, Example 2 on page 84 and Example 3 on page 85.

If students have difficulty measuring angles with a protractor, a skill that should have been acquired in grade 6, they need to practice as much as possible on scrap paper, measuring different angles.

Work assignment - page 87-88 questions 5, 6, 8, 10, 13 and 16. Also

                            page 116 questions 6,7.

Section 3.2 - Draw Perpendicular Bisectors (3-4 days) Students should read carefully pages 89- 92, copy and learn the definitions of bisect and perpendicular bisector and pay special attention to the Example on pages 90-91. Both methods of doing it need to be mastered !!!!

If students have difficulty using a compass to a desired length and drawing a circle or part of a circle neatly, this should be parcticed at length on scrap paper until it is done with ease. A good compass is one that opens stiffly, with some difficulty and pulling, NOT easily. !!!

Work assignment for this section - page 92/93 questions 4,5,7,8, 10. Also

                                                   page116-117 questions 8,9,10.

This should take you to next week on Thursday when I will post details about the next sections!

Contact me by e-mail if needed! Good luck and be safe!

GRADE 8  MATHEMATICS - please continue using graph paper notebooks for your work !!!

Hello everyone,

Students should have their textbooks with them.

We should try to finish Chapter 10 by the end of next week. After Spring Break the plan is to spend 2 weeks on Chapter 1, 3 weeks on Chapter 2, 3 weeks on Chapter 5, 2 weeks on Chapter 7 and 1 week on Chapter 11 - wether in school or at home. I will post details for each chapter once a week.

Chapter 10 Section 10.4 - Modelling and Solving Two Step Equations of the format a(x+b)=c

Students should focus on reading Example 2 on page 396 - Solution Method 2 only, as well as copy the definition of Distributive Property, understand it and learn it.

Work assignment page 398-399 questions 6-9, 11-15. Also

                          page 401 questions 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23

*** Please note that for most questions you are to ignore instructions and just solve the equations.

There will also be a few worksheets scanned and attached under Files, later today, relating to this chapter, to be done in their note book.

I can be contacted by e-mail at any time. Next grade 8 Math posting at the end of next week.

GRADE 7 ELA work will be posted tomorrow.

Good luck and stay safe!

Hello everyone,

As you know school is closing shortly due to the health crisis unfolding. I will be posting Math

assignments  and lessons with examples starting tomorrow for both Grade 7 and 8. All students should have their Math textbook with them at home as usual. If anyone left it in their locker, it can be picked up during regular school hours at any time (there will staff at school and in the office). Students, with parents supervision can continue to learn the curriculum in preparation for the time when classes will resume.

For Grade 7 ELA students should have their Spelling book with them at home.

I can always be reached through the school e-mail!

God bless you and keep you in good health!
