We had an excellent adventure Wednesday on the Christiana River and the "tidal guts" surrounding the Dupont Environmental Education Center. We will finish the semester by studying endangered plant and animal species and explore human influence on this problem. The Senior final exam for this course will be during first block on Wednesday, May 29.
This week we will reinforce our concepts of ionic and covalent bonding of atoms. We will learn how to balance simple chemical equations utilizing the law of conservation of matter. Our final Unit test will be Tuesday, May 21 on ions, bonding and balancing chemical equations.
We have collected our ants to put in the ant farms and are waiting to observe the tunnels they dig. I am still waiting for permission slips and $$ for the trip to the Education Center at the Riverfront. I will need all $$ by this Friday or I will have to cancel the trip. We will finish our study of Ecosystems this week and take a look at sustainable farming techniques, as a way to maintain ecosystem services in a specific environment. Weather permitting, we will take a trip back to Banning park to perform water quality tests on the water in the biopond.
We have taken a test on properties of the elements and the periodic table. The second part of the Chemistry unit will involve bonding of atoms to form stable molecules and compounds and balancing simple chemical equations. Cadets will have a quiz on Monday, May 13, on chemical bonds.
We have finished our unit on fingerprint analysis, and are learning about and practicing the analysis of hand writing. Later in the week we will start the unit on the use of forensic casts and impressions.
